'Professional Self' (ವೃತ್ತಿಸ್ವತ್ವ)

Professional self is a two different word "Profession" and "self"
The word 'Profession' is derived from the Latin word "Profess" which means to take decision on a particular idea and stick on it.
Self means Ego, Person as a whole.
In general we use the terminology 'Professional self' with the statement saying people could have their professional self in their work place and return home at the end of the day with their personal self. Again next morning they could back to their professional 'self' and perhaps put the personal self  back into a cupboard and this was to lie their till they were ready to pick it up and leave the agency after their working hours. In the practice of social work professional self has a special position as compared to other practice of social work professional self has a special position as compared to other professions.
Professional self is an aspect of  one's Personality. So Professional self that is professional me or professional personality with the growing awareness of professional social work finds innate dignity in other human beings and deals with them due regard and consideration.

Catharsis (ಭೇದಿ ವಿರೇಚನ: ತೀವ್ರ ಭಾವದಿಂದಾಗುವ ಮನಶ್ಶುದ್ಧಿ)
Catharsis is the most oftenly used technical term by the Psychiatrists and Social Wrokers while handling individuals problems.
The term Catharsis means the process of “descharging built up aggressive” energy means it is a process of  releasing strong emotions through a particular activity or experience such as writing or verbal interactions which helps you to understand those emotions. This accompanies with post traumatic events in order to bring them to resolution.
It assumes the past traumatic events and the feelings engendered by them have not been resolved and that unresolved emotions are affecting current behaviour, thoughts or feelings.
This will be used as most prioritised technique in all the models and approaches of social work specialy in Crisis Intervention Model Of Social Case Work.

ಸೆರೆಬ್ರಲ್ ಪಾಲ್ಸಿ
            ಮಿದುಳಿನ ಅಪಕ್ವ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಸ್ನಾಯುಗಳ ಸಮನ್ವಯತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣದಲ್ಲುಂಟಾಗುವ ತೊಂದರೆಯನ್ನು 'ಸರೆಬ್ರಲ್ ಪಾಲ್ಸಿ' ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹುಟ್ಟಿದಾಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಿದ್ದು ಜೀವನ ಪರ್ಯಂತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಅಸಮರ್ಥನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಿದುಳು ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಮಾಡಲು ಅಶಕ್ತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ

ಆಟಿಸಂ
            ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯ ರೋಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಮಾತು ಮತ್ತು ಭಾಷಾ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನ್ಯೂನತೆಯಿರುವ ರೋಗವೆಂದರೆ 'ಆಟಿಸಂ'. ರೋಗದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳೆಂದರೆ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ ಅಸಮರ್ಪಕವಾಗಿರುವುದು, ಸಂವಹನ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದೋಷವಿರುವುದು, ಮತ್ತು ಏಕರೂಪದ ಪುನರಾವರ್ತೀತ ವರ್ತನೆಗಳು. ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳು ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷದ ಮೊದಲೇ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇವರ ಪೂರ್ವಬಾಲ್ಯಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇತರ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗಳು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳು ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯಾಗುತ್ತವೆ

Empathy and relationships

Empathy, as the dictionary defines it, is ‘the ability to understand how someone feels because you can imagine what it is like to be him.’ 

Jess Lair, an inspirational writer put it in simple terms. “Empathy is: your pain in my heart.” Pain being a universal emotion is felt by all, and therefore, every human being who boasts of a heart ought to have empathy built into his being. In its natural absence, empathy should be painstakingly embraced into one’s life philosophy.

It is interesting to note that those of us with a lot of personal appeal have the gift of empathy. Being empathetic makes us approachable, agreeable and friendly. It breeds into a relationship such remarkable elements as patience, kindness and square dealings.

The boss who understands the difficulties of his subordinates, the teacher who endeavours to reach out to the less scholarly students, the parent who makes an attempt to see the world through the eyes of his rebellious teenage child, the friend with deep feelings for his envious pals, all exhibit empathy in their interpersonal relationships that make them people-centred rather than self-centred. 

The crux of empathy is always to consider the needs of others before one’s own needs. It is all about fine-tuning one’s ears to listen with an understanding mind and heart, keeping in perspective from where the other person is coming.   

Among the many ways of exercising empathy in our daily living, an effective approach is simply to put ourselves in other people’s shoes in any given situation. Yet another method of being empathetic is to use our own personal shortcomings as a sounding board from where empathy could be nurtured. 

The following story brings out in a powerful manner how personal limitations can be successfully used to practise empathy. An eight year-old boy goes to a pet store with his dad to buy a puppy. The store manager shows them five furry little puppies huddled together. 
 
The boy notices one of the litter all by itself in an adjacent pen. When asked for the reason for its solitary confinement, the manager explains that the puppy was born with a bad leg and would be crippled for life. 

After a short conversation with his boy, the dad tells the manager that they wanted to buy the puppy with the bad leg. “For the same amount of money, you could have one of the healthy ones.  Why do you want this one?” reasons out the manager. 

To answer the manager’s question, the boy bends over and pulls on his right leg, exposing the brace beneath and says, “Sir, I want this one because I understand what he’s going through!”
